Throwback Thursday, Blog Style; Vol.2

Stepping back again, to the summer of 2008... this is one of the most fun memories of the beginning of our hanging out/dating period.  A weekend with Jack and Kathy at the Crystal Cove Cottages.  It was smack dab in the middle of summer, so it was so great to get away and stay on the beach for the weekend!  Like I mentioned before, I had 2 roommates at the time, so they graciously took care of the cats... & thankfully, Rob worked at a dog daycare so we didn't have a hard time finding someone to pawn Lilly off on for the weekend... we got off work and then we were off for a fun weekend together in the sun ♥ Priceless!!

He may or may not have been trying to cram that ice cream cone in my face ;)  It was a nice cool Saturday on the deck... hanging out, drinking coffee, and playing games with Jack and Kathy.

Later that day, as it warmed up, we headed down to catch some sun on the beach and have some fun in the water.  It really was a little mini vacation... even though we weren't even 20 min from my little home.  That evening, Jack and Kathy had a birthday party to go to.... so Rob and I, along with Medley, walked up to the Trader Joes and local pizza place... just spending the evening walking around, having fun and then settled back in for the evening watching the sunset and relaxing under the stars ♥  Sunday Morning, we woke up, and took a walk along the beach, and headed up to the Shack for the biggest cinnamon roll I've ever seen... and of course a shake... yes for breakfast! What a great little mid-summer get away!

This little cottage was a hot spot for the Tisthammers! We spent a few spring weekends there, summer weekends, even a New Years Eve!! There's a lot of amazing family memories in that little cottage! I think we  just might need to plan a family vacation for next summer! :)

i loath mondays.

i'm not sure what it is about monday mornings that just make me grumpy and blah.  every time.  i love my life. i love my job...but none of that seems to matter on a monday.  i typically bribe myself with starbucks on monday mornings... hoping it will jolt me out of the monday funk blues.  it also never fails that apparently over the weekend things fall apart that i so eagerly (sarcasm) get to put back together come monday morning.

it always seems the better the weekend at home... the worse the monday blues.  by the time noon rolls around, i'm usually back to my chipper happy self, but for the time being... grump!

i often get frustrated with myself that i allow my emotions to control me from time to time... ok, a lot.  God made me an emotional being... and even though that can be wonderful, it definitely has its downside.  i'm reminded every morning, as my alarm goes off, that "this is the day that the Lord has made... i am to rejoice and be glad in it..." this is quite the cattle prod to a morning challenged person, such as myself.  today i am also reminded to allow Him to love and care for me through out my day... bad mood or good mood.  as i dig into His word this morning, looking for Him to lift my head out of the grim of my bad attitude... i'm asking him to speak to me through His word... to encourage and strengthen me for my week.

Psalm 63:1, "Oh God, you are my God.  I earnestly search for you.  My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weariness."

...it's who i am.

ok, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that enjoys reading people's "about me" on their blogs.  a couple of blogs I follow did a little spin on an about me today... the girls behind the blogs.  I decided it seemed fun and should join in :) Check them out... Something About You and Me and Today Was A Fairytale

- if i can't give something 100% i don't do it. the end.

the beauty in waiting.

  Pslam 46:10

Lately God has really been working on my anxious heart.  I'm the type of person that knows what they want and I want it when I want it.  Nothing wrong with that, right?
Well, apparently there is... God is showing me the beauty in the in between.

This was only affirmed with a cute little quote on I saw on facebook this morning...

After the last season we've been through... waiting seems like the hardest thing.  As we enter a new season, again, its all about waiting. God continues to remind me to be still.  To stop and enjoy.  So my "get 'er done" mentality is gonna have to take a back burner, as I sit and wait in the shadow of my King.

I am reminded of the song my Steven Curtis Chapman, "Be Still and Know"....

"Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is faithful
Consider all that he has done
Stand in awe and be amazed
And know that He will never change"

Living the 23rd.

When I was little, I remember one of the big milestones of preschool was to memorize the 23rd Psalm. I clearly remember how stinking long it seemed and thinking there was no way my little mind could absorb all those words! In my mind of a child, remember I was FOUR, all these words seemed so silly... wondering how a rod and staff would bring comfort, or why I would want oil on my head... or even better yet, why I would want a cup to over flow.  I also clearly remember thinking "surely goodness and mercy ..." Meant that not only was Goodness and Mercy going to follow me... but also my Mom's best friend Shirley would also be near by. HA... the mind of a child.

At four years old, I obviously, couldn't wrap my brain around the vastness of these verses.  Quite frankly I don't think my teen brain or even early 20's brain even understood the magnitude of these words.  And I'm sure they will hold different meanings for me throughout my adulthood.

"the Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.  He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.  He renews my strength.  He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.  Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.  You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.  You honor me by anointing my head with oil.  My cup overflows with blessings.  Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the lord forever."

Now, as an adult, it amazes me the depth of truth and applicability there is in these verses! He always gives me all that I need.  He leads me through amazing times and through hard times... walking with me, there cheering me on, preparing feasts for me and overflowing my cup with blessings.  It never ceases to amaze me that God is so real in the dark as well as the light.  He remains the same... He never changes.  He's always the God I can depend on to walk with me in the valleys as well as beside still waters, giving me rest and restoring me daily.

It is so neat to see God bring me full circle from that little 4 year old girl who had all these big words memorized by heart to an adult who is living this out... or should I say, God is living these words out in me.  It's very humbling.

Be restored.

Family Weekend ♥

We kicked off the last weekend with a family dinner at Red Robin.  Funny enough, this set the tone for the rest of the weekend.  Weather was warm, we were busy, so restaurant life it was! Saturday morning we headed out to look at houses with Mom & Dad T.  We saw some great homes...and a couple definite front runners! Of course, one of my favorites was the old fixer upper... that NO ONE else liked. What can I say... I see possibility and I definitely don't take things at face value! But rationally, I get it.  They need a home they can move into... and fast! After all, they're house is in escrow after not even 3 days on the market, gotta love CA housing market! But, it was a fun day... tiring, but fun.  We stopped for lunch at L&L, and then it was to our houses for naps... well, me and the kids took naps!

Later that evening, Aunt Julie came down from Castle Rock, and we headed out to one of our favorites to celebrate Fathers' Day early... The Golden Bee. Again, if its old and has a history...I'm all about it! The Golden Bee is an authentic 19th century English Pup...it makes me happy ;) After the bee, we headed home and Rob and I stayed up with Jack and Kathy, playing pinochle into the late evening... good thing I had that nap!!!

Sunday rolled around and we headed off to church, where after... yep you guessed it.... headed out for lunch with the family and friends from church.  This time it was Cheddars and oh, so yummy! We spent the rest of the day relaxing, playing cards, playing with the kids, and just having some great family time!

I'm sure tired today, but the weekend was so worth it :)

In other news, the fire is now 75% contained! To think not even a week ago my coworkers were being evacuated, and once again, our city was on fire! I'm so thankful for the first responders, and men and women who have devoted their days and nights to keeping us all safe this week.  We are all praying and hopeful that this is it for the summer... NO MORE! The fires weren't close to us this year, as we are more central and the fire was more north, but heartbreaking none the less! I pray that I never take for granted those who fight for my safety... whether its here at home or overseas.  Sacrifice should never be taken for granted. ♥

Have a great week everyone!!! ♥

Weekend Recap & Coffee Reflections

Another fabulous weekend under our belts!
Friday afternoon was gorgeous and a perfect day to watch my man coach baseball.
Made my typical thrift store stop on Saturday... see my previous blog about my fun finds! Then Rob and I had a fun day out and about shopping. Saturday evening we got to watch Levi & Blakely. We ate a yummy pot roast that my amazing husband made, played outside, and settled in for a movie and popcorn. It was a nice evening in with our favorite littles.
Sunday lent itself to sleeping in with the best intentions of making it to the 11am service at church. Laziness crept in and we didn't make it! :( but Aunt Julie came down from Castle Rock and met us at Poor Richards for yummy pizza and book/toy shopping Sunday afternoon. Then the laziness commenced, late afternoon naps, movie watching, catching up on shows and snacking... That was our evening.
This week is off to a great start. It's 99 degrees already this morning... It's a beautiful day. We are looking forward to Jack and Kathy getting here Wednesday!! It will be a treat having Jack here for Fathers' Day weekend!

Have a great week everyone!!!!

thrifty saturday...

Pretty typical Saturday morning stop for me - our local thrift store.  Today, I hit the jackpot! I picked up two vintage Pyrex bowls to add to my collection and the cutest little lilies of the valley jar.  The lilies of the valley I plan on using for coffee...its just way too cute!
I sadly walked away from 3... yes THREE other Pyrex bowls.  2 were identical to ones I already have (but love) and the other was not quite in the condition I wanted for the price.  PLUS... I'm gonna need to get me a whole other cabinet to start keeping these in before too long.  Needless to say, it was an exciting and worth while thrift day!

I love old things and their history.  I always feel like I'm filling our home with others' great memories... adding them to our own, some how letting those that have gone before us live on along side of us.  Sounds silly and maybe creepy to some, I know.  But I treasure history, old things, and the stories {even if i make them up, HA!} that go along with those things.

In example, I have so many things that have been passed down to me from my grandparents.  I cannot put a value on these pieces... I view my thrift pieces as someone's treasures & may be that someone didn't have anyone to pass them down to.  So, I will gladly take them as my own and treasure them as if they had been placed in my care from my own grandparents ♥  & yes, that is why I love thrifting & old things ♥

High Five for Friday!! TGIF!

Well, the only thing longer than a normal week is the week after a 4 day week... but we've almost made it! ITS FRIDAY!!! YAY!

1. We were blessed this week with an evening in with M&L and their little cuties!! They had been out of town for about a week.  It was so great to see them! We had yummy tamales, quality time together, and I think there was basketball on in the background ;)

2.  Our lilly-bug braved a week of thunderstorms and she did great! Granted her Daddy was home with her the majority of the time...but He had a baseball game yesterday, and she did great by herself! Last year, our little CA pup, was not a fan of the thunder at all!

3. Date Night on Wednesday was amazing as usual.  Elephant Bar... SO yummy!

4. Our TV night in is always my favorite! I was a bit disappointed in the bachelorette this week... she sent one of my top 5 home :(  sigh... Robert.

5. Looking forward to today at work... meetings this morning then a company lunch to celebrate 2 months straight of breaking records!... so proud of our little team ♥

...noticing a trend... we spent a lot of nights "in" this week... just the way I like it :)

...the continued never ending list

reasons why my husband is awesome ...

He's been my past, is my present, and is my future.  This summer marks 9 years that he's been in my life.  The majority of those years were spent as one of my best friends... although the past 5 of him being my boyfriend/fiance/husband have been my favorite!

His words of affirmation.  He always knows what I need to hear and when I need to hear it.

Our dinner dates...priceless.

Throwback Thursday... Blog Style ♥

A spin off of the popular instagram trend "throwback thursday" I thought it might be fun to feature a picture every once in awhile on a Thursday.  One from the past, that is filled with memories and blog about it a bit.  I'm sure they'll mostly be of Rob and I, maybe some of family, but no matter what... a wonderful memory filled picture.

So without further ado... here is the first post in a trip down memory lane:

Us. 2008.

This is one of my favorite pictures of us.  It was taken the summer of 2008, and sits on a shelf, framed in our home.

I had been through a lot that year... but I finally found my happy and I'm pretty sure its evident in this picture!

Summer of 2008. I lived in Costa Mesa, CA in my little house.  I loved that house.  After living alone for quite awhile, two of my close friends moved in with me that summer. Yep, 3 girls, 2 cats squeezed into a 500sqft home. Rent was cheap and life was easy.  We literally had the time of our lives. Some of my best memories of my 20's happened right there in that little house.

On this particular evening, we were headed to Melanie's birthday party at Dave and Busters! She had rented out one of the private sections and Karaoke, good food, and drinks were on the agenda.  We all had a marvelous time, as usual.

Mine and Rob's relationship at this point was a bit undefined.  We were basically best friends, who hung out ALL the time... seriously, it was more like 3 girls, 1 guy, 2 cats, and a dog in that little house.  He'd come over right after work... or after his classes, that is if he wasn't skipping them to come hang out.  That summer was filled with lots of evenings in Newport, Sunday Fundays, many a yogurt run, Laventina's, Ho Sum, Angel games, and days at the beach.

This was definitely a time when life was easy, troubles were rare, and fun was always plentiful. ♥ 2008 was a good year!

He Awakens my Soul.

He always seems to know just the right words to put in my life, when I need them. I don't know why this always catches me surprised... you would think I would be use to it by now!

This morning, I felt filled. Filled by the words He wanted me to hear. What a blessing.  Please indulge me while I share them with you....

Let me start by saying I'm such a sucker for the reading plans on my You Version App! I'm starting new ones... ALOT!. My latest, "Fully Satisfied in His Love".
Here is my reading for today:

Knowing and understanding God's intimate knowledge of you and His sovereignty in your life will bring profound peace and satisfaction deep within your soul.
Read Psalm 139:13-18.
All the days of your life were ordained for you, every one of them was known by God. He formed you in your mother's womb. Not only did He know exactly what you would look like, as He handpicked every characteristic, but He also knew the day, the hour, and the minute of your birth.
He knows your every day before you will live it. In fact, He has a plan and a purpose for each of our lives, down to the smallest detail _ even numbering the hairs on our head at any given moment (Matthew 10:29-30). He has known and planned every day, every hour, every moment of your life; not one thing has escaped His notice and purpose.
Even knowing these truths, are there things about yourself you don't understand? Are there things that have happened during your life that you find difficult to accept, let alone be thankful for?
Even when we know that God is sovereign, we need to be honest about our struggles with His plan for us. Take time to think through these things and then ask the Lord to help you entrust everything to Him.
The Bible tells us that before the foundation of the world, God chose us in Christ Jesus. We are His and He chose us with eternity in mind. He loved you long, long ago. He chose you not because you were more special than anyone else, but because of His perfect wisdom and infinite love. He has carefully watched over you every day since you were just a glimmer in His eye.
In Romans 8:28-29, we learn that He has been causing all things to work together for good in your life and forming you into the image of His son. There is no greater joy than to know this love and to believe in it to the very depth of your soul, and then walk in it.
Choose one scripture from today that the Lord is using to renew your mind and transform your heart. Take this truth to heart and bring it to life throughout your day.
